About Us

Who We Are...

  • The Westwood church is not a part of any denomination. We are simply a group of Christians who have joined together to worship and glorify God, to support one another, and to do the work Christ has authorized a local assembly of saints to accomplish. (Acts 2:42, 46-47)
  • Elders, who are qualified men (1 Timothy 3:1-7) and appointed to serve in that capacity oversee and shepherd the flock. (Acts 20:28)
  • Deacons, who are also qualified men, are appointed to serve the congregation in a special capacity. (1 Timothy 3:8-13)
  • Biblical scripture is the only reliable source of spiritual truth and divine authority. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
  • While the whole Old Testament provides valuable historical perspective (Romans 15:4), Moses' Law was given by God exclusively to the Isrealites and was made obsolete with the giving of the New Testament. (Hebrews 8:13)
  • Jesus Christ has all authority (Matthew 28:18) and we strive to glorify His name by looking only to the New Testament written by His inspired apostles and prophets for religious authority.

What We Do...

  • EVANGELISM- The church is to be the "pillar and support of the truth" (1 Timothy 3:15). Like first century Christians, we spread the gospel in our own community (Acts 8:4). But we also provide support to different preachers in the Phillippines.
  • EDIFICATION OF OUR MEMBERS- (Ephesians 4:16) teaches that all the members are to work together to bring about "the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love". All of our sermons, classes and study materials are centered around God's word "which is able to save your souls" (James 1:21).
  • ASSISTANCE TO NEEDY SAINTS- The New Testament authorizes the local church to use some of it's limited resources to provide for the needs of Christians (2 Corinthians 8:4; 9:1). When others in our community struggle, our members get their own wallets out instead of simply saying, "see the church leaders" (Galatians 6:10).

How We Worship...

  • WE PRAY TOGETHER. We offer up praise and thanksgiving to God and petition him for the things that we need. (1 Thessalonians 5:17; James 5:16)
  • WE SING TOGETHER. All members singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs is the only music authorized in the New Testament (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16). Some churches ADDED instruments over 1,000 years after the inspired apostles died and they did so with NO AUTHORITY from God. We know that when we sing from the heart, God is glorified.
  • WE HEAR THE PROCLAMATION OF THE GOSPEL. Just like the church in Troas did in (Acts 20:7).
  • WE PARTAKE OF THE LORD'S SUPPER ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK. Jesus instituted this ceremony in the memory of his death on the cross (Matthew 26:26-29). We know God is pleased when we assemble together to partake on the first day of the week because first century Christians did it with His approval. (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 10:16).
  • WE CONTRIBUTE TO THE WORK. Free will offering of the members on the first day of the week is the only authorized method for raising local church funds (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).

WE BELIEVE...

  • THAT CHRIST IS PREEMINENT- He has all authority and is the only head of the church. (Matthew 28:18; John 14:6).
  • THAT THE BIBLE IS THE INSPIRED WORD OF GOD- (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Galatians 1:6-9, 11-12).
  • IN NEW TESTAMENT CHRISTIANITY- The New Testament of Jesus Christ is the Chritian's only rule of faith and practice (Galatians 3:10-11, 5:1-6).
  • COMMITMENT TO SCRIPTUAL AUTHORITY IN ALL THINGS WILL RESULT IN CHRIST'S CHURCH AS HE DESIGNED IT- (Colossians 3:17; 1 Thessalonians 5:21; 2 John 9).
